| Intramezzo launches talent fund |
Executive search firm Intramezzo has launched a talent-backed investment fund. The Tagged Executive Programme will introduce repeat entrepreneurs who are looking to back themselves in their next venture, to equity and debt providers.
"This is a fund with talent at its core," said Intramezzo chief executive Dermot Hill.
Intramezzo aims to assemble 100 executives in the first phase of the venture. In order to qualify for the programme, executives will have to be able to raise upwards of £250,000 secured against assets.
Deals will range from start-ups to management buyouts and buy-ins, pre-IPO transactions and acquisitions.
"These will be high-net-worth individuals looking for a career move who are prepared to raise a loan of £250,000 on the understanding they will get additional funds from elsewhere," Hill explained.
The target deal size for each of the tagged executives is more than £1m, using a mixture of debt and equity.
The decision to invest will be the domain of the banking and equity partners involved. Intramezzo's role will be as a facilitator.
The firm is currently close to securing banking partners and is in talks with a number of private equity firms. Intramezzo intends to scale up the model in the future.
"If we get 100 new ventures going that would be an amazing achievement," Hill said.
"And then there is always scope for a second fund."
Intramezzo has in the region of 2,400 executives on its books, of which 760 are looking for deals, which allow them to buy into the equity.
"This initiative is particularly important at a time when there needs to be innovation to stimulate investment and to monetise more intellectual property," Hill said.

| High-Tech PR |
Destanie... pronounced the same as destiny. I wish I had a great story about how I got the name but regrettably there isn't one. My mom is Korean and I think she just liked the word. It's a great conversation opener and luckily one that sticks in people's minds. So when I decided to start my own PR consultancy, its name of course, DestaniePR!
DestaniePR is a one woman PR and Marketing Communications consultancy based in Cambridge, UK that specialises in early stage technology companies and has a global reach.
I got introduced to the tech industry during the Cambridge Phenomenon days working for a start-up called Virata, a market share leader of DSL semiconductors and software, before it floated on NASDAQ and became a Cambridge success story. That's where I caught the whole tech start-up bug - loved the entrepreneurial spirit and being part of something from the ground up. After leaving Virata I joined Symbionics, a well-known design consultancy leading the development of next generation wireless and DTV technologies, which was acquired by Cadence Design Systems. As Marketing Manager for the Wireless Design Group, I was responsible for global PR and marketing communications activities for our Bluetooth, 3G, DECT and other wireless IP, products and services. But when tough times hit the wireless industry Cadence decided to exit the design services business in late 2002, I, and about 150 others, found ourselves redundant. But as the saying goes 'out of the ashes rises the phoenix, and from the ashes of Symbionics/Cadence sprang several start-ups. And they all needed a good (and affordable) PR/Marcoms resource. So another start-up was born! And DestaniePR was started in early 2003.
Early stage tech companies are a niche market but very stimulating and ideally suited for a consultancy like DestaniePR. My clients are dynamic, continually evolving and often times resource limited. DestaniePR offers the benefits of both start up and big company experience, extensive relationships with tech media and analysts in the U.S., UK, Europe and Asia and the convenience, flexibility and cost effectiveness to match the evolving needs of my clients.

Global Retailer Network
|
Networked across the global retail landscape, enviably down to earth, and universally trusted, we are Patonz; the Retail network of choice for 4,500+ retailers worldwide. We are probably the fastest growing Retail company that you've never heard of, and we'd like to say 'Hello'.
We're cross-border cross-pollinators, we're integrators, where every staffer is expected to grow his or her own web of networks from Day 1. We deliver 'Reach & Speed' through our network of relationships, reaching into retailers' boardrooms, across the world, and fast, accelerating business strategies. The energy flow through our network is amazing, and it's fun... matched only by the deal-flow which follow!
Contrary to common business practice our business model is also unique, it's never about Patonz it's always only ever about the brands we work with.
We never talk to the media about our activities, we don't have members, we have guests; our network grows organically by referral and through the natural course of activity. We never cold-call, we are not consultants; our clients come to us.
Our fees are decided by our clients; we do not have a 'rate card', we ask clients to attach a value to the contribution which we have made to the growth of their business, usually after a deal is done.
Patonz Global Retail Network has four core activities:
- We enable retailers, wishing to move from their domestic market onto the international stage, to reach and secure suitable franchise partners on a global basis.
- Acting for service providers, such as store developers, marketers, or creative agencies, we reach into retailers' boardrooms to secure introductory meetings
- Through our private networking events around the world we generate an manage a wide variety of deal-flow activity
- We photograph retailers around the world on a weekly basis: Retailers in Moscow, London, Sydney, New York, Sao Paolo, and Mumbai

Time Management - The Pareto Way
|
Personal time management is an essential skill for effective people, learning to prioritise. One popular method is the Pareto Principle. Pareto, in 1897 he formed the 80-20 rule.
|
When applied to a work situation it shows that 80% of unfocused effort will generate only 20% of results. This means that the remaining 80% of results can be achieved with 20% of the effort. Therefore utilising the Pareto Principle in your working life will remind you to focus on the 20% that really matters.
But what about everything else? Well, one tip to help you maintain this balance is to make use of a concierge service. Specifically created to provide you with 24 hour professional support and assistance 365 days a year, it's like having your very own Executive Personal Assistant wherever and whenever you need them. They'll make reservations for you, organise a party for you, book flights, choose gifts, find you a great dentist - in fact any request you can think of however bizarre.
Let them take on the 80% whilst you concentrate on the important 20% and reap the rewards of a rewarding and fulfilling life.
